Sometimes architecture calls for being able to integrate timber and aluminium windows in the one project. This was certainly the case here where the design called for statement timber but also highlight windows and more practical options throughout the remainder of the home. We often find this mix in federation home extensions where linking the new structure with the existing is done through the use of timber.
The Frameless Look
In order to compliment rather than detract from the statement timber, the design called for frameless highlight windows. This is where the main structure of the windows is tucked neatly within the external cladding giving a seamless minimal look.
The Practical Benefits of Aluminium
Above we acknowledged that timber is sometimes required from a design perspective and don't get us wrong it looks great! But let's have a look at why we would recommend aluminium for all other applications throughout your project
Maintenance. Aluminium windows and doors require no maintenance aside from regular general cleaning. No weathering, rotting or warping. No sanding back. No routine staining.
Colour Options. The colour possibilities are many for aluminium windows and doors becuase all of our extrusions are powdercoated prior to product manufacture. We have a standard range of colours which cover our most popular options and are more readily accessible. However as mentioned, your windows and doors can be custom coloured to the perfect hue to match your project.
Sustainability. Aluminium's longevity as a product far outlives timber but that's not all. Where aluminium needs to be replaced for design or upgrade reasons, the existing product can be fully recycled. This is largely not the case for timber. Additionally, the advancement of aluminium frames recently offers excellent energy efficiency.
Strength & Ratings. Aluminium is a stronger product than timber which provides more flexibility in the frame design, size and width. Furthermore the Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) is much higher.
